THE EXPORT INSPECTION AGENCIES
the Export Inspection Council approves and administers a body known as the Export Inspection Agency. The sole purpose of this body is to inspect the commodities that are to be exported, also, this body coordinates with the council for its various endeavors. * Certification of quality of food products by installing Food Safety Management Systems in the food processing units as per international standards.
* Issue of various Certificates such as Health, Authenticity and the likes of it to exporters under the different schemes for export products.
* Issue of Certificates of Origin to exporters under various preferential tariff schemes for export commodities.
* Laboratory testing services.
* Training and technical assistance to the industry in installation of Quality and Safety Management Systems in accordance with the required standards, laboratory testing etc.
* Recognition of inspection agencies and laboratories in accordance with the required standards and making use of them for export inspection and testing.

Authorised Export Inspection Agencies in Tamil Nadu
The following are authorised Export Inspection Agencies that are recognised by the Export Promotion Council.
There is a certain procedure for becoming an Export Inspection Agency is as follows:
If an agency would like to be recognised as an inspection agency for any of the notified commodities, of any kind, it is necessary for the organisation to submit an application to an Export Inspection Agency (EIA), whichever one is the nearest to the organisation’s location. Inspection agencies are located at Chennai, Delhi, Cochin, Kolkata and Mumbai, and other cities and states as mentioned above.
There is a prescribed format for the application, which is exactly how the application should be completed, along with which, a sum of ₹25000, considered as the fee, should be submitted. This fees is non refundable. As per the activities carried out by the Agency, all the documents pertaining to them should be submitted, along with the application. In addition to this, proof of its legal identity, experience in inspection and quality management systems implemented by the agency should also be submitted.
A copy of application filed with the particular inspection agency, along with the agency’s enclosures like manuals and copy of payment document will be simultaneously forwarded to Export Inspection Council, New Delhi. After receiving the application filed by an agency, the Export Inspection Council (EIC) has to examine the application to decide whether to accept or reject the application. If the application is accepted by the Export Inspection Council, an application number is then allotted to the applicant agency and duly acknowledged. In case of any inadequacies, Export Inspection Council may either call for supplementary information or reject the application altogether. However, if rejected, the Council is supposed to give reasons for doing the same, which should be sent to the applicant in writing with a copy to concerned Export Inspection Agency.
The reasons upon which the Export Inspection Council may reject can be one or more of the following:
* The agency is seeking approval for a commodity under its scope, which is not of interest to EIC in the current scenario.
* The agency doesn’t have sufficient technical capability for the scope that is applied for.
* Incomplete Application.
* Non-submission of the required documents.
* Non-payment of fees.
* The track record of the agency isn’t satisfactory (if it is an application for renewal).
* Any other reason as deemed fit by EIC.
