Police clearance certificate is a legal document that is issued or given to the Indian Passport applicants and to those who are passport holders given by a Government Agency or the Police department so as to attest to the fact that the applicant has no criminal offence or has not committed any crime. The Police Clearance certificate is required for mostly for the people of Indian who are looking forward to going out of the country for a better life; they are migrating to a foreign country to widen their scope, Educational basis, Long or short-term residential stay or for other purposes. When travelling outside the country for tourist, there is no need to apply for the police clearance certificate from the Indian authorities. Criteria for Getting the Police clearance certificate

The following are ways to follow to get your certificate with ease;

  • The applicant must possess an Indian passport
  • A valid Address proof: The address given must tally as the same in the passport and other document that will be required or asked during the process.

Necessary Document

  1. Address proof
  2. if he is a Bachelor, needs a Bachelor certificate.
  3. If Married must possess a marriage certificate.
  4. Proof of financial capability
  5. Identity proof
  6. Photographs are also important.

Procedure for online application

An applicant that wants the certificate must visit the official passport website using the link shown to apply for the police clearance certificate. Use the following steps as a guideline

Step 1: The applicant must register through the passport Seva online portal in the homepage. If the applicant is already a resident of India, then he/she must select the district from the drop-down menu.

He/she must be able to create a login Id that will be used to log in anytime into the Passport Seva online portal.

Click on the “Apply for Police clearance certificate” link for the application form. Below is the Application form page.

Step4: Some details are important and required to fill all details in it, once filled, click on the submit button to send all the details.

Step 5:

Click on the “Viewed Saved/Submitted Application; there is an option to make payment. Click on the “Pay and Schedule Appointment” option to make payments and also to book an appointment, the fee for the form is Rs 500. When ready to pay the money, it is possible to pay using a credit card, debit card or using internet banking.

Step 6: Click on the “Print Application form Receipt” option to print the application form; it will contain the application reference Number(ARN/Appointment Number). SMS will be sent which includes the application details that will be accepted as a proof of appointment during the visit to the passport office.

Step 7:

Visit the Passport Seva Kendra/regional passport office where the appointment has been booked with your original documents.

e-Form Submission

The form can be downloaded by clicking on “Download e-Form” option that is available on the home page. Applicants must fill the downloaded e-Form and click on the Validate and save button on it. This will generate an XML file, which is needed during the online application process.

How to check Application Status

To check your passport Application Status;

  • Go to the official website of Passport Seva, click on the Track Application Status.
  • Enter file number and date of the applicant and click on the Track Button
  • The status of the passport will be displayed.
