What is a Passport?

A passport is a document which is issued by the government it certifies the holder identity, citizenship and entitling them to travel internationally. In India passport is issued under the passport act, 1967 by the consular, passport and visa division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government Of India.

In India an official website is launched passportindia.gov.in by the consular, passport and visa a division of the Ministry Of External Affairs, Government Of India.

What are the documents required for passport application?

These are the documents required for passport application

  1. Proof of date of birth: date of birth certificate/Aadhaar card
  2. Identity proof with photograph: Voter ID / Driving Licence
  3. Proof of residence: aadhaar card
  4. Non ECR category : SSLC / PUC / Degree certificate

Procedure for online passport application?

  1. The person must open the portal passportindia.gov.in

2. Then click on new user a page will popup

Then the person must submit all the details in this page and click on register

  1. Then the person gets a link to the registered email id and the person need to activate it
  2. After activating the link then the person needs to submit the details pertaining to guardian/spouse, emergency contact number and their email id.
  3. Then the person will be redirected to next page which contains the details regarding

“whether the person/ applicant in charged for an offence’

Whether the applicant applied for passport earlier and all other related questions

After answering all the questions the applicant must click submit.

  1. A new page pops up and the applicant must select number of pages in passport 36 pages/60 pages
  2. After all, a page pops up asking to select the nearest Passport Seva Kendra and the local police station.
  3. Then the person must select a date and book an appointment for the passport.
  4. The person must pay the required fee for a passport either in online Or at Passport Seva Kendra.
  5. On appointment day the person must carry the print out of the application and the original documents with their photocopies.

Documents need to be carried to Passport Seva Kendra:

  1. Aadhaar card
  2. Voter Id
  3. Driving license
  4. SSLC/ PUC/ Degree certificate
Is there any police verification?

Yes, after submitting the necessary details in Passport Seva Kendra thereafter the next step would be a police verification. After completion of police verification within 30 days, you will receive a passport via post.

What is tatkaal passport?

When a person needs to travel abroad and it is very urgent then the applicant can apply for tatkaal passport it means it is speedier than a normal passport. An applicant who applied for tatkaal passport will receive his passport with in 7 days.

What is the validity of the passport?

The validity of passport in India is 10 years

What should we need to do when the passport is expired?

Once the passport is expired you need to apply for reissue of passport by paying the prescribed fee
