About Aadhaar Card

Following the concept of individual identification system, Aadhaar was introduced for Indian citizens. Aadhaar Card’s motto is “Single Identity”. To ensure safety and security of the country. Linking Aadhaar Card to PAN Card ONLINE

Logging on to the income tax e-filing portal. There are two ways of doing it on the Income Tax portal:

Step 1: Go to & click on the left pane – Link Aadhaar

Step 2: Fill in the following details like PAN, Aadhaar no. and Name specified on Aadhaar Card

Step 3: Click on “Submit”

Step 4: Post verification from UIDAI, linking will be confirmed.

Logging in to your account

Step 1: Visit income tax e filing portal, and register yourself at the portal.

Step 2: Enter login ID, password and date of birth.

Step 3: After Login, a pop up window will appear to link your PAN card with Aadhaar Card. If you cant see the pop up, go to blue tab on the top named ‘Profile Settings’ and click on ‘Link Aadhar’.

Step 4: Verify the details on screen with Aadhar Card. Details like name, DOB and gender will be mentioned on the e-filing portal.

Step 5: Then, enter your Aadhaar Number and captcha code & click on ‘Link now’

Step 6: A successful message will be shown that Aadhaar Number has been successfully linked to PAN Card.

Linking Aadhaar with PAN Card by sending SMS

Step 1: Send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number in the following format: UIDPAN <SPACE><12 digit Aadhaar><Space><10 digit PAN> Example: UIDPAN 123456789123 AKPLM2124M

Step 2: You will be notified when it is successfully linked.

Correction facility for linking your PAN with Aadhaar Card

For linking PAN with Aadhaar Card, details need to be matched. In case there are some corrections need to be made like spelling mistakes, there will be linking problems. You can make changes through UIDAI’s website or on portal of NSDL PAN. Following are the steps:

Visit NSDL website

NSDL redirects to the page where you can apply for correction

Submit signed digital documents to get your PAN details updated

Once details are corrected and confirmed over mail, you can link your PAN with Aadhaar


Visit UIDAI webpage & enter your Aadhaar and security code

OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number

To change the spelling of your name, OTP is required

To change or modify other details such as gender and date of birth, send supporting documents

After being approved, user can link his PAN card with Aadhaar.

Documents required for linking PAN with Aadhaar Card

No documents are required for linking PAN with Aadhaar. Only non-biometric information on your Aadhar Card and PAN Card need to be perfect match. Only then the linking can be done. Hence, prior starting the process, PAN and Aadhaar cards need to have the following information in common:

You are a NRI

You are resident of Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir

You are Foreign nationals residing in India

You are Senior citizen who are more than 80 years of age at any time during the financial year
