Steps to GST Payment | Company Vakil

GST payment can be done either offline or online. In this article, we discuss the different GST payment methods accessible for registered GST persons to fulfill their GST obligations.

Online GST Payment

Aside from the formation of the GST document, payment for GST facility can also be made in the same portal through internet banking facilities. The steps for making online GST payment are as follows:

STEP 1: Login to GST portal.

STEP 2: Click the Services > Payments > Create Challan option.

STEP 3: The Create Challan page is displayed. In the GSTIN/UIN/TRPID/TMPID field, enter your GSTIN.

Note: If you have different types of GST registration, you must use make GST payment by using different modes after you must have gained access to the GST portal. Procedures to access the portal will be shared below.

Ministries, firm, bodies, Government, Offices or Other dignities need to use:

  1.  Unique Identification Number (UIN).
  2.  Tax Return Prepares need to use Tax Return Prepare Identification Number (TRPID) to generate the document.
  3.  If a person has a temporary ID and he is not registered, he must get Temporary Identification number (TMPID) to generate the document.
  4.  It is mandatory for persons applying for Casual Taxable Registration to use the ARN Number.

STEP 4: Type the characters as displayed below the field, enter the captcha text.

STEP 5: Snap Click the ‘proceed’ button.

STEP 6: In the Tax Liability Details grid, enter the details of payment to be made. The Total Challan Amount field and Total Challan Amount (In Words) fields are auto-populated with the total amount of payment to be made.

STEP 7: Select the Mode of E-Payment.

STEP 8: Click the GENERATE CHALLAN button.

The OTP Authentication box would appear. In the Enter OTP field, enter the OTP sent on a registered mobile number of the taxpayer whose GSTIN/UIN/TRPID/TMPID is entered. Click the ‘proceed’ button, then, the document is generated.

STEP 9: Select the Internet banking as your preferred E-Payment mode.

  • Select your preferred Bank.
  • Check the box to agree to its Terms and Conditions.

Click the MAKE PAYMENT button.

NOTE: When the payment is successful payment, you will be re-directed to the GST Portal where the status of the transaction will be displayed. The payment receipt is also displayed on the portal. Click on the receipt link to the View Receipt. If you want to make another payment, you can do that by clicking on the MAKE ANOTHER PAYMENT button.

How to make offline GST Payment at Bank

In case of offline payment through a bank:

In the Payment Modes option, choose ‘Over the Counter’ as the payment mode.

  1.  Select the Name of your Bank.
  2.  Select the type of instrument as Cash/ Draft/Cheque/demand.
  3.  Click the GENERATE CHALLAN button.
  4.  The document Challan is generated.
  5.  Receive a print out of the Challan and visit the selected Bank.
  6.  Pay using the payment instrument you have proposed to use previously.

The validity period status will be updated on the GST Portal after confirmation from the Bank.

GST Payment through NEFT/RTGS

In case of payment through NEFT/RTGS, select the Payment Modes option, then, select the NEFT/RTGS as the payment mode. In the Remitting Bank drop-down list, select the name of the remitting bank. Click the Generate CHALLAN button. The OTP Authentication box appears. In the Enter OTP field, enter the OTP sent on a registered mobile number of the taxpayer whose GSTIN/UIN/TRPID/TMPID is entered.

Click the PROCEED button. The Challan is generated. Take a printed challan and visit the selected Bank. A necessary form will be generated at the same time. Make Payment using Cheque through your account with the selected Bank/ Branch. You can pay using the account transfer facility.

The transaction will be processed by the Bank and RBI will confirm the transaction within 2 hours. Once the Unique Transaction number (UTR) is received on your registered mobile number or registered e-mail, then you can link the UTR with the NEFT/RTGS CPIN on the GST. Then Go to Challan History and click the CPIN link. Put in the UTR and link it with the NEFT/RTGS payment. After confirmation of the status of payment by the bank, same will update on the FAST portal. The payment will also be updated in the Electronic Credit Ledger in respective minor/major heads.
