This is a one stop solution for accessing EPF request without visiting the EPFO offices. The portal helps employees to check and claim their provident fund and update KYC information. Employees can also organize employee information thus making their EPF contribution.
EPFO e-sewa is a special resource for achieving online receipting of e-challan cum return (ECR).It is a must for employees to register their organizations on the portal. Registration is set ups through using a unique user ID as well as password in the portal. Employees are only permitted to upload their electric returns once registration is completed. After every step and validation is completed a challan would pop up on the screen which is based on the return upload.

Registering for E-sewa facility
Follow the steps below to create account on the portal:
Step1: Open Esewa portal – http//unifiedportal-emp.epfindia.gov.in/epfo/
Step 2: Register Business with EPFO
A system registered username and password are used to access the portal temporarily. Account is sent to registered employers numbers. This is for the first time use but can also be used as future permanent Id.
Steps to download E-return tool
Step 1: Login to https//www.epfindia.gov.in/site_en/ then click on e-return tool for employers. Employee details such as wages and EPF contribution can be uploaded.
Step 2: Generation of Text file
To generate text file use the module ‘Generate Returns for submission to EPFO’ and Electronic Challan Cum Return form (ECR)
NB-the department of pension and provident fund advises that one should read the instructions to the installation before processing. For new, installation the software A-L could be downloaded ,for upgrading purposes older version, download ‘E and F’ Version.
Electronic Challan Cum Return(ECR) Generation
Step 1: Log into e-sewa portal
Step 2: Uploading the generated ECR
Select ‘ECR’ upload under the module to upload the generated version. Confirm month and year during uploading the generated version. A confirmation pop up will appear if correct upload finishes.
Step 3: EDLI contribution entry
This is a summary sheet where user can enter the total EDLI contribution; Total EPF administrative /inspection charges.
Step 4: submit the ECR
Step 5: Digitally signed document
A digitally signed PDF file would appear on the screen. If the number of members is above 200,the user waits for sms alert to view and download file.
Step 6: Approval of PDF file
Checking the accuracy of the verified file.
Step 7: Temporary Return Reference Number (TRRN)
A TRRN will be pulled from the uploaded file once the EFR file is approved. After the slip acknowledging the approval would be shown in the upcoming screen corresponding ECR.
Step 8: Download the Challan receipt file
Click the download challan file »print the challan with TRRN number and manually update the details in the ‘establishment of use only’ section.
Make payment to the bank along with the challan.
Step 9 : Confirmation
After depositing the cheque user would get an sms alert to confirm the deposit.
Android E-sewa application Portal-UAN member
EPFO launched android application named EPF,UAN member e-sewa helpdesk and can be downloaded in the Google play store in android version 2.3 and above mobile phones. Application also has the online claim transfer Portal (OCTP).The main features of the app include:
- Application facilities user to receive EPF UAN registration(number) online instantly.
- App allows employees to activate the corresponding UAN
- Enables user to check the status of the task requested to the department.
- Permission to download EPF e-pass boot.
- Employee can check their balance in the EPF
